Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at 11:30 a.m., 20 packer buyers have the opportunity to log on to the Internet to bid on the carcass weight of culls cows and bulls. Price is derived through a real-time Internet auction. These buyers are bidding on a written description of livestock, differentiated by grade and delivery location.
Once price is established, sellers can contact their local auction market and discover the prevailing price for the specified delivery location and date. If producers want to take advantage of this price, they need to deliver their cattle to the designated Equity Cooperative Livestock Sale Association auction market by 12:00 noon on the specified delivery day.
